This is the first of two visits made each year to check the bat and dormouse boxes. Our group is invited to join Tony and members of the Cornwall & Devon Bat groups to observe their work in counting and identifying the species of bats that use the different kinds of boxes and roosts placed amongst the trees. We often get the chance to see one of the bats in close-up, held carefully by a licenced bat worker or trainee.

A bit of a drive to get to this walk but it will be worth it especially if we can car share, 10:30am for an 11am start.

Gill plans to walk along the coastal path around Pentire Point towards North Polzeath beach, turning inland and up to West Pentire Farm and then back to the cars.

It is deemed 'moderate' going and about four miles in length. Stout walking boots are essential... drink/thermos and a packed lunch are advisable! And there may be cake...!

'Owl Sense' was the BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week in February and has been described by Robert MacFarlane as 'a beautiful book; wise and sharp-eared as its subject. it is a captivating study of some of our most charismatic & elusive birds.

The author, Miriam Darlington, will begin with the telling of her wild encounters & walks in the British Isles, then her journeys through Europe to identify every species of European owl from southern Spain to the Arctic circle.

All are welcome to join the Cornwall Branch of Butterfly Conservation to visit this reserve near Luckett in east Cornwall.

We will meet in the village car park where there's room to eat a picnic lunch before hand.

Richard will take us along the lanes and paths up into Greenscombe Woods where the Heath Fritillary Butterfly was re-introduced in 2006. And is doing quite well!

Interesting plants on this site and other butterflies.
