Meeting:
In the Rough Tor car park (NT) at SX138819

UPDATE: It is going to be rather cold! So, we have decided to meet at 3:30pm and then go off on a brisk walk up to one of the tors returning to the cars just before 4:30pm in time for hot drinks and cake before the starlings start to fly in at about 4:45pm

So if you prefer not to walk, meet us in the car park at 4:30pm; you'll still get cake...

Having heard that the numbers of starlings roosting near Rough Tor are good this year, and because we had to cancel last year's visit because of poor weather, we've decided to have another go. Although starling numbers are never so great as those reported from the Somerset Levels, this is a great place to watch the birds fly in, often small groups will swoop past just a few metres away as they approach the plantation from several directions.

Meet in the National Trust car park; Ian & Irene will check locations a day or two before hand so if the roosting site has changed, we may drive over to the Davidstow side, so please be punctual.

We will walk around the area for an hour or so and decide on the best place to view before the birds begin to fly in just before dusk. We will have hot drinks and cake available and families are very welcome; just wrap up well, the wind will be cold.

Dogs on leads please because of grazing animals

Equipment & Booking:
Wear warm clothing, it will be cold; waterproof footwear; binoculars; phone/camera; notebook; a torch might be useful at the end.
