Meeting:
Near St. Stephens Church where there is parking, see below for directions. Post code is near PL12 4AP

After meeting a couple of the Friends of Churchtown Farm at the CWT local groups meeting last autumn, a few of us decided that this would be an interesting place to visit; not too far away but different to our local areas. Much of the farmland is managed for hay with plenty of wild flowers and arable 'weeds'. The hedgerows look good. The estuary running down from Forder village has a steep and wooded hillside and an old quarry.

LOOK OUT FOR UPDATES NEARER THE DATE PLEASE.

Tide times at Devonport: Low 10:12am and High 16:28pm

Very interesting educational pack available to down load at  http://www.churchtownfarm.saltash.website/Home/Documents

It gives a lot of information about the reserve.

After meeting near the church (parking in front of the church) and pub at 11am., Peter Kent, who is the CWT reserve manager and a keen ornothologist, will be able to guide us around to look out for birds and spring migrants. This walk will take about three hours.

The reserve wraps around the peninsular and up towards the village of Forder alongside the Forder Lake estuary. I will check for tide times! There should be an opportunity to look for signs of otter but the shoreline along the Tamar may not be fully accessible. Note that high tide is at 16:28.

If you would like to stay on into the afternoon and explore further, then please bring a packed lunch~ we may take lunch or a snack with us and have a stop about half way.. We will have hot drinks and cake available at the start and lukewarm drinks and leftover cake at the end!

Most of their events state 'No dogs' so I think we should respect that wish.

There is a web-site with much more information. Click here to link. If you click on the 'Find Us' tab at the top, you will get full instructions with maps but I have copied their directions here:

"From Carkeel roundabout on the A38, follow Callington Road towards Saltash straight over the roundabout and then straight on at the traffic lights. Then turn right at the mini roundabout by the fire station into Church Road, following signs to St Stephens Follow Church Road past Saltash College and straight over the mini-roundabout.

For the entrance to reserve behind St Stephen's Church turn right at the T- junction to St Stephen's Road and park in front of Church. Follow the road around to the Cecil Arms Pub and walk left up Farm Lane past the cemetery. The entrance to the reserve is at the end of this lane."
