North hill village hall car park SX27087671

This is the first of several wild flower walks organised by Ian Bennallick to up-date records in our area. And we will record anything that we are confident about, not just plants. Please do not bring dogs because of ground nesting birds and farm livestock.

Today, he will be walking along footpaths to the west of the village and to the south, hoping to cover three 1k squares, which have not been visited for many years. Some of these areas will be familiar to members of our group but I think we last visited in winter. An interesting area to walk with a mix of hedgerow and woodland, open moorland (good views) and bog!

Although I am not quite sure which route Ian will take, I think we will cross the river Lynher on the footbridge below the village and then walk up around the Castick farms towards the moor. Following the paths that circle Hawks Tor itself, and then down the road towards Berriowbridge, perhaps Port Lane and even Middlewood. (Might be some cake there?)

There will be some quite steep climbs and a bit of marsh involved so please wear appropriate foot wear. Walking pace steady to slow...

It will be possible to walk for just half the day but please discuss this with Ian on arrival and it may be possible to provide a support vehicle. If you intend to stay all day, then bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.

If the weather forecast is poor, Ian may cancel so please check with him the evening before. And I will up-date this page as well.
