Entrance to the reserve at SX322774 just off the road and down from the hill where you can park.

This is the first of two visits made each year to check the bat and dormouse boxes. Our group is invited to join Tony and members of the Cornwall & Devon Bat groups to observe their work in counting and identifying the species of bats that use the different kinds of boxes and roosts placed amongst the trees. We often get the chance to see one of the bats in close-up, held carefully by a licenced bat worker or trainee.

Steve & his family have monitored the dormice in these woods for many years now and although it is rare for us to see them, they were seen last year and we saw their nest in the autumn (but the wood mice had moved in).

There are always interesting things to see in these beautiful woods, now one of Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Reserves and one which is not open to the public which makes our visit a little more special.

The afternoon finishes with our traditional tea and cake and the chance for a good chat.

Some of the paths are steep and the ground can be slippery in places.

Please do not bring dogs because of the disturbance to wildlife and farm livestock in the fields around the wood.

Accompanied children and families are very welcome to join us.

Please park in tight on the right-hand side of the hill and walk back down to the entrance lane.
